Guangzhou (JLC), July 10, 2024 – China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 0.2% year on year in June, posting a year-on-year growth for a fifth straight month, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed.
On a month-on-month comparison, however, the CPI dropped 0.2% in June, the NBS data showed.
The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, went up 0.6% year on year in June, according to Dong Lijuan, an NBS statistician.
In the first half of the year, the CPI rose 0.1% year on year, the NBS data showed.
Factory-gate price deflation persists, but shows improvement
China's producer price index (PPI), which measures factory-gate goods prices, still fell 0.8% year on year in June, narrowing from a 1.4% decline in May, the NBS data showed.
On a month-on-month comparison, the PPI dropped 0.2% in June, versus a 0.2% increase in May, the NBS data indicated.
In January-June, the PPI dropped 2.1% from the same period of last year, the NBS data showed.
