Container explosion rocks Ningbo-Zhoushan Port

Guangzhou (JLC), August 9, 2024 – A strong explosion occurred on a container ship at around 13:40 p.m. Beijing time on Friday at the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, state-run China Central Television (CCTV) reported.

 

The incident took place at the Beilun Port, part of the larger Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in Zhejiang province.

 

The vessel involved was YM Mobility owned by YangMing Marine Transport Corporation, according to CCTV and a video footage released by it.

 

A transit container loaded with “Class Five Dangerous Goods”, which refers to “oxidizing substances and organic peroxides”, was on fire (before the explosion), according to the state media.

 

No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

 

It is not clear yet how much impact will be made on local port operation.
