Guangzhou (JLC), April 10, 2025--China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, fell 0.1% year on year in March, slowing from a 0.7% decline in February, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed.
The slowdown in decrease was ascribed to policies aimed at boosting consumption, the NBS said.
The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, rose 0.5% from a year before in March, reversing a 0.1% drop in the previous month.
On a month-on-month comparison, the CPI slipped 0.4% last month, the NBS data indicated.
In the first quarter, the CPI was down 0.1% from a year earlier, the NBS data also showed.
China's producer price index (PPI), which measures factory-gate goods prices, fell 2.5% year on year in March, accelerating from a 2.2% decrease in the prior month, the NBS data showed.
On a month-on-month comparison, the PPI dropped 0.4%.
In January-March, the PPI dropped 2.3% from the same months last year, the NBS data indicated.
