Guangzhou (JLC), September 10, 2025--China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, fell 0.4% year on year in August, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed.
The decrease was ascribed to a relatively high base in the same month last year and a rise in food prices that was below the seasonal level, the NBS said.
The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, rose 0.9% from a year before in August, marking the fourth consecutive month of increase.
On a month-on-month comparison, the CPI was flat, the NBS data indicated.
In the first eight months, the CPI was down 0.1% from a year earlier, the NBS data also showed.
China's producer price index (PPI), which measures factory-gate goods prices, fell 2.9% year on year in August, decelerating from a 3.6% decrease in the prior month, the NBS data showed.
On a month-on-month comparison, the PPI was unchanged.
In January-August, the PPI dropped 2.9% from the same period of time last year, the NBS data indicated.
