Beijing (JLC), December 15, 2025— Qingdao Port has handled over 700 million (mln) mt of cargoes this year, the port said on its WeChat official account.

As the MSC EVA completed cargo operations at Qianwan Port Area on December 8, Qingdao Port's throughput surpassed 700 mln mt for the year, achieving the target 15 days earlier than in 2024. Besides, the port’s container throughput exceeded 30 mln TEUs on November 26.

Qingdao Port launched 15 new major projects in 2025, adding 16-mln-mt of throughput capacity, 1.46 mln square meters of container yard area, and 132,000 cubic meters of liquefied hydrocarbon storage capacity. In addition, the second 400,000-mt ore terminal of the port was put into operation in October.

With 20 newly added container routes this year, the port operates nearly 240 routes now, connecting with about 700 ports in 180 countries and regions. Over 60% of the routes are linked to countries alongside the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and RCEP member states.

The port has built 54 inland ports and launched 86 sea-rail intermodal trains to leverage land-sea connectivity. During the first 11 months of 2025, it processed 2.625 mln TEUs of sea-rail intermodal containers, an 11% year-on-year increase, ranking first in China.

In 2024, Qingdao port handled 710 mln mt of cargoes and 30.87 mln TEUs of containers, taking the fifth place globally in terms of container throughput.

Qingdao Port consists of Qianwan Port Area, Huangdao Oil Port Area, Dongjiakou Port Area, Dagang Port Area, and Weihai Port Area. It commenced the container handling business in 1976 and launched the first international route in 1992.

Shandong Port Group Co., Ltd, the operator of Qingdao Port, integrates seven major ports in Shandong Province to form a cluster effect. By the end of 2025, these ports are projected to have 396 berths of over 10,000 mt, with a total cargo throughput of 2.1 billion mt and a container throughput of 45 mln TEUs for the year. Shandong Province has become the only province in China with three ports (Qingdao Port, Rizhao Port, and Yantai Port) exceeding 500 mln mt in throughput.
