Chinese airlines to raise fuel surcharges on April 5

8:02pm 03 Apr, 2026 Echo Deng

Guangzhou (JLC), April 3, 2026--On April 1, Chinese airlines, including Air China, Xiamen Airlines, and China United, announced their plans to raise fuel surcharges on domestic air passenger transports starting from April 5, according to finance.cctv.com.

For tickets sold on or after April 5, 2026, the fuel surcharge will increase to CNY120/person for flight segments above 800 km and CNY60/person for segments of 800 km or less, the report said.

Before the adjustment, the fuel surcharge was CNY20/person for flights over 800 km and CNY10/person for those under 800 km.

Since the beginning of March, due to escalating geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East and restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the international crude prices have risen sharply, weighing down the aviation industry, other reports added.

The average price of front-month WTI crude futures surged to $91.00/bbl in March, up by $26.47/bbl or 41.03% from February, while that of front-month ICE Brent crude leapt by $30.23/bbl or 43.58% to $99.60/bbl, JLC’s data shows.
