Guangzhou (JLC), September 28, 2026--Profits of China's major industrial firms soared by 15.7% year on year in the first eight months of 2026, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Monday.

Industrial firms with an annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan (about 2.97 million US dollars) saw their combined profits reach roughly 5.27 trillion yuan in January-August.

Specifically, China reaped profits of 3.97 trillion yuan in the manufacturing industry and 766.15 billion yuan in the mining industry, jumping by 17.4% and 35.1% year on year, respectively. In contrast, the profits in the electricity, heat, gas, and water production and supply industry tumbled by 12.0% to 536.30 billion yuan.

Meanwhile, the combined business revenue of China's major industrial firms gained 6.6% year on year to 93.09 trillion yuan in the period, the NBS data indicated.

The growth in profits and revenue was mainly driven by a steady rise in industrial production and a wider increase in industrial product prices, according to Yu Weining, a chief statistician at the NBS.

In August alone, the country's industrial profits went up by 4.2% year on year, the NBS data also showed.
