China's manufacturing PMI rises in September

Guangzhou (JLC), September 30, 2026--China's manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) went up in September 2026, returning to the expansion zone.

 

The manufacturing PMI came in at 50.1% in the month, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

A breakdown of September's manufacturing PMI showed that the sub-index for production stood at 51.7%, a month-on-month increase of 1.3 percentage points, the NBS data indicated.

 

On the demand side, the sub-index for new orders reached 50.5%, a slip of 0.1 percentage points from the month before.

 

Meanwhile, the sub-index for raw material inventories settled at 48.2%, up 0.1 percentage points from the prior month; the sub-index for employment slid by 0.3 percentage points to 48.4%, while that for supplier delivery time remained unchanged at 50.1%.

China's non-manufacturing business activity index came in at 50.2% in September, up 1.2 percentage points from August, the NBS data also showed.

The business activity index for construction stood at 50.3%, a gain of 3.4 percentage points month on month, while that for services climbed by 0.9 percentage points to 50.2%.

 

The business activity indexes for telecommunications, radio, television and satellite transmission services, monetary and financial services, and insurance were all above 55.0% in September, suggesting relatively high prosperity for these sectors.

 

In contrast, the indexes for capital market services, real estate, and other sectors were below the threshold, the NBS said.
