China sees record-high passenger trips during Chunyun

Guangzhou (JLC), February 25, 2025--China wrapped up the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush (Chunyun) for 2025 with approximately 9.02 billion passenger trips completed, which set a record high, Xinhua News Agency reported on February 23.

 

This year's Chunyun lasted from January 14 to February 22. The passenger trips went up by 7.1% from the corresponding period in 2024, the data shows.

 

Specifically, about 8.39 billion trips were made by road during the period, rising by 7.2% year on year.

 

Meanwhile, railway passenger volume reached 510 million, an increase of 6.1%.

 

As for air travel, passenger trips amounted to 90.2 million during Chunyun, a year-on-year growth of 7.4%.

 

At the same time, roughly 31.21 million trips were done by waterways, gaining 7.6% year on year, the data also indicates.
